A competition was announced at the pre-season meeting which is open to all members. The Club sign on Mill Road is looking very tired. The competition is to design a possible replacemment. The size is 3ft x 2ft and may be in full colour. Entries need not be this size if submitted as a computer file togethMargaretsmaller printed copy, but the 3:2 ratio is important. Non computer entries must be suitable for photographing, so that a commputer image can be made. The closing date for this is the 22nd June. |

After the first week of dampness, we've had good spell of dry sunny weather allowing us get to grips with the new season. This has started well and we have had some good exciting matches.
Our first Taster Session of the season went very well, with a good turnout and at least one new application to join, which it is what it was all about. Of course, the others will be all over by the time you read this, but we have high hopes that a number of you will have attended, enjoyed the experience and l have joined us.
I was intrigued to read a letter in our local newspaper recently from a gentleman living in Charlton Street. Under the caption "Noise abounds", he reviewed the decibel levels of his immediate area, commenting on the traffic of various kinds rumbling past his front windows. He then turned to the The Memorial Playing Field, (or should we now call it the Village Green). The Cricket Club is open late with a popular Bar and various events, the Tennis Club is used all year round, the Stoollball, Football and Athletic clubs all use it. People play and walk their dogs there! All of these, he says, can be "quite noisy and distracting", but it's a playing field - that's what it's there for. However, the point of this story is that although he acknowledges that there is also a Bowling Club in the Field, he had to confess that he had never heard a sound from it! Now isn't that nice. Not that we are moribund and don't enjoy ourselves, but we do it quietly and pleasurably. Another reminder for those who like to enjoy their active pastimes in peace and tranquility.
Also in May, we welcomed members from the Sussex County Executive (Bowling that is and nothing to do with those recently in the news about the council elections), being the first of the formal celebrations of our 80th Anniversary year. Obviously we are hoping for good weather and a result worthy of the experience gained by our members over that period!
Don't forget where we are - the Mill Road end of the Memorial Playing Field and we will always welcome interested visitors, you'll know where we are by the absence of noise! As always, if you would like any more information about us please contact
